Week 9: Earthquake And Volcanoes


  1. What did you do in the lab today? 
- We worked in bigger groups to talk about our background knowledge on volcanoes and earthquakes 
- Watched a video on the earthquake in Nepal, and talked about it in the whole class 
- Watched a video on volcanoes, and the sound pushed the clouds away, before the shock
-  We made predictions on the map of volcanoes and earthquakes 
- EARTHQUAKE
        - P: Waves
            - Can travels through anything 
        - S: Waves
            - Can only travel through liquid

Day 9: 
It plates that move, not the continent 
Map of geology to create Pangea 
- Fossil evidence 
Wegener and Plate Tectonics
- German climatologist and geologist 
- Proposed a theory of continental drift 
Hawaii is very active, even though it is in the middle of the Pacific Plate
- Hawaii is being eroded by water 
Life survived during the ice age underwater 
Why does Iowa have earthquakes?:
- New Madrid went off three time, shattered windows in Washington DC
o If it went off today, the University of Iowa and the Midwest would be destroyed 2
